Here is a detailed description of the fourth (final?) Ms. Megaphone run: |
| Sat, 9 Sep 2000
We were contacted by ComedyWorld.Com to do a radio interview with Laurie Hoese from Media Jammers, and Kimmy from the BigBrotherWatcher@egroups. The radio station asked us to go back on site (live on the radio) to do a video segment too, and we foolishly agreed. During the radio interview, Laurie called in to do her part, but when she got on, she alerted me to the storm that was brewing inside the house. It seemed that George was leading a revolt - another walkout was in the making! That was very exciting news to us! Laurie urged us to get out to the site ASAP to encourage the HGs to leave and save their dignity. So after my short interview segment, we headed
out to the BB site. When we pulled into the condo parking lot, reports
from inside the house were that the HGs were still in there talking about
what to do and that they had all thrown their hands in the ring, saying
that they'd walk out together on Wednesday's live show.
Hello Houseguests -
Ms. Megaphone is back!
While I was shouting my message, a resident of the condo nearest me came out and started yelling at us to leave. She really got in our faces! I was surprised that an such an old lady would get in our faces like that - you've got to admire tenacity! I can't say that I blame her - if someone were hollering on a bullhorn outside of *my* condo, I'd be out there in that person's face too! :-) We gave in to her demands and left. But that wasn't the end of it. After we drove off, we went over to the opening of the Tujunga Wash (see map) and unloaded the bike from the reporter's car. I hopped on the bike and headed off down the pathway along the wash to the area adjacent the BB compound. My hubby and the camera crew followed on foot. It was a fairly long hike. (My knee is injured, that's why I had the bike, in case you were wondering. I couldn't have walked that far on the rough terrain.) When "my crew" caught up to me, I started hollering messages again through the megaphone. Reports were that Cassandra was out in the yard. Hello Houseguests!
At that point, the CBS guys showed up. They'd come crawling out of the woodwork from who-knows-where! Inside the compound, the HGs had refused to go inside! Woohoo! That was good to hear. They were listening! BB thwarted them though by turning on the lousy music they'd used for the dance contest (the didn't use good music, or they'd actually have to pay royalties! Cheapskates!) over the loudspeakers outside. If they'd done that the first time, Ms. Megaphone would probably not have become popular....hahaha Anyway, here we are on the river walkway with CBS guys running around and trying to get at us. The CBS guy got in my face until my husband stepped in between us. He body-blocked the guy from coming near me. Mr. CBS must have run all the way down the wash because he was completely out of breath. I don't think he was security, but he was still intimidating. He said, "You're on private property and you'll have to leave." I told him that it was city property. He told me I was still trespassing on this city property. I replied, "If I am trespassing, then you are too." He told me he had permission to be there. I asked him to show me his permission! <ha ha!> Of course, he had nothing to show. He told us that the police had been called and that we had two minutes to leave the premises. We decided that it would be best to leave at that point. I had/have no desire to go to jail! So I gave my hubby the megaphone, hopped on the bike and took off towards the entrance. I got there ahead of everyone else, and when I came up the short hill and was ready to cross the street, another CBS guy was suddenly right in my face. He planted himself directly in my path and asked me how I was doing. I said, "I'm fine; I'm leaving now." I stepped to the side to move around him, and he grabbed the bike seat as I tried to pass him. I wrested the bike away from him with a hard tug and went across the street. He spoke into his radio and followed me. I didn't want him - or CBS - to know which car was mine, so I stopped in front of the reporter's car and waited for "my crew" to come. It seemed like it took a LIFETIME for them to get there! Meanwhile, The guy who'd been in my face down in the wash, caught up to me, huffing and puffing and sweating profusely <heeheehee!> and he pulled out a notepad and wrote down the license number of the car. That's the reporter's car - not mine! <heeheehee again!> I should have just left the bike by his car, jumped into mine and taken off, but I knew they'd get the license number, so I stayed there. When my crew finally arrived, also huffing and puffing, we all jumped into the reporter's car and took off. Several cars were on our heels - and a couple in front of us. We evaded the front cars, by moving slowly at first, and as soon as they passed an intersection in the residential area, we sharply turned right and they were gone! <Ha ha!> But we didn't lose the cars behind us for a long time. In fact, they followed us onto the freeway, and most of the way back to the radio station. I think they were playing super-spy with the radios and various vehicles, but nobody actually followed us off the freeway, so we got away. ...Except for my car.... My car was parked on Colfax, and if the CBS guy had seen us at the condo, he'd know it was my car. I was really stressed about my car being parked there. I'd also left my bag in the trunk and it had my identification and other goodies in it. We waited about an hour, and then the producer drove us back to my car. We were ready to pass it by if we saw anyone from CBS there, but we didn't see anyone. We were ready to jump out and take off as soon as he stopped his car. So he did, and we did, and the rest is history. Even though we were harrassed by the CBS guys, I don't know whether they had any real authority to do so. No police ever showed up, my car was fine and we got away with it. Again. :-) But I'm certainly NOT in any hurry to go back...! |
